Rebuilding the Sahara Bal Bikash Kendra School

Rebuilding the Sahara Bal Bikash Kendra School

The Sahara Bal Bikash Kendra School is located in the village of Dumling in Dhading, Nepal, where around 40 students attend the school every day. The school consists of only one classroom and one grade – kindergarten. Due to the lack of space, some of the students are forced to study and learn outdoors, regardless of the weather conditions. Because of the old and worn-out state of the building, as well as the high risk of collapse, it is safer for the children to be outdoors.

However, we believe that all students deserve a safe and comfortable learning environment with room for every student.

Children in need of more than an education

At the Sahara Bal Bikash Kendra School, the students are offered free meals every day, provided by the Nepalese government. Because most of thestudents come from poor families who lack access to basic necessities and often struggle to feed themselves and their children, the free meals is one of the main reasons why the children attend school.

A safe and comfortable learning environment

The building is old and extremely damaged, and the risk of collapse is high, especially since the area is prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes. Because it’s made of stone, a sudden collapse would put the young students in immediate danger.

At the moment, the school only consists of one classroom the size of 3×3 meters. This is nowhere near enough space for 40 children, and at least half of the students are often forced to study outside, even in the rain.
